Welcome back to Meet our Members, a series where we sit down with the individuals and organizations that make up our devoted Alliance. This week we’re sharing an interview with member, The Boppy Company, manufacturer of products from pregnancy through the first year of baby’s life. We’re showcasing this storied organizations’ work in this field, connection to the cause and reasoning for joining BFIDSA.

1.Tell us a little bit about you. Please feel free to share details about your work, initiatives or
projects you are involved in, and why you decided to join BFIDSA.

Boppy has provided feeding support for moms, dads, caregivers and babies for more than 30 years.

Our mission is to support all “Momkind” from pregnancy through the first year of baby’s life with comfortable and safe products.

We are a team of 32 employees who are passionate about what we do to support not only moms, but dads, caretakers, and babies too. We are real moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents and Boppy enthusiasts bringing passion of being a parent into work.

Boppy provides comfort and support through both product and education. We are passionate about informing families about the safe use of our products along with tips and tricks to be successful during the breastfeeding journey.

In 2022, Boppy received the Core Values Impact Award from our industry association JPMA, the Juvenile Industry Association. This award recognized members who care about the customer experience and are committed to providing robust education and product support for parents and caregivers before and after the sale.

2.What do nursing pillows mean to you? What is your personal experience with these products?
What have you observed of the importance of these products for mothers and caregivers
?

The original product, the Boppy Nursing Support, is what Boppy is most known for. It makes breastfeeding easier, and millions of moms have used it and have told their friends and family to use it too.

Babies nurse 8-12 times a day. It is estimated that these Nursing Support Products are used for Breastfeeding 2.5 million times a day

3. What do you want to the CPSC to know and remember about the importance of infant feeding supports?

A study published in Pediatric Reports correlates breastfeeding with nursing supports concluding that:

“The use of a breastfeeding pillow significantly decreases maternal discomfort experienced during the breastfeeding process. Maternal comfort is expected to enhance the quality of breastfeeding by improving the position and attachment of the mother-baby during the breastfeeding process.”

Moms come in all shapes and sizes; it is important that nursing supports do the same. We want to be sure a new standard does not limit choice of this essential tool.
